Protecting Princess Ysolde from treason and assassination requires all of Geoffrey's skill as a knight-protector. Though she is a sorceress from a tribe of fierce air elementals, her refusal to marry an aristocrat of the court's choosing leaves her vulnerable. The nobles loathe anyone different--especially Ysolde as an adopted daughter of the king--and she returns their hatred with equal scorn.
To save her life, she gathers allies with powerful strengths, but their dark secrets jeopardize the security of the kingdom. If Geoffrey fails in his duty and she succumbs to the tangled web cloaking her kingdom, his growing love will die with her.

Shadows for a Princess Trials of Terraina Book 1 eBook Vivienne Savage Dominique Kristine Reviews
The stary-eyed Princess truely shows a strength that rivals even her most loyal Knight. In her trials you see her grow into her own heroine, but she also stumbles upon a love that promises to help her on her journey. Whereas, her knight battles his heart and head as he tackles much more than he ever expected along side the firey Princess hes sworn to protect.
This book is such a delight to read. With a cast of characters so full of life, Shadows for a Princess, truely draws you into its world. It has some very strong female characters that truely set this apart from other books. The authors have penned a story line keeps you intrigued with a hint of romance to take your heart for a ride in the best of ways.
I was privileged enough to get an ARC copy, now it has become fully realized and I couldn't be happier. This book has captivated my thoughts for some time and Im eager to see what the author has in store for us in the books to come.
If you like realistic, relatable characters (despite being a part of a fantasy tale) that will make you laugh, curse, and sob for them then this book does the trick. The narrative is engrossing, written with great skill--the author is able to evoke a full range of emotions and actions, from fear of danger, to friendship, loyalty and great love as well as deception and political trickery . I found Ysolde to be a strong, admirable heroine who had to find new inner strength to survive the all the attacks upon her in efforts to usurp her power as the heir to the throne, especially once her adopted father, the King of Hindera, had died. Geoffrey, the worthy knight assigned to her protection, was also admirable and knightly, especially in his reticence to indicate his true feelings for Ysolde. You feel a part of this dangerous world. I so enjoyed the variety of locales and how they were described. I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel! I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy of this book.
I wish I hadn’t waited so long to read “Shadows”; it was amazing! I’d say about the first third of the book started off slowly, laying the groundwork for the characters and the world they live in. But then – boom! I couldn’t stop reading. “Shadows” is as good as any fantasy book I’ve ever read. It involves magic, politics, intrigue, and romance. Its main female characters – Ysolde and Raenna - are as strong and exciting as any “alpha” male you’d read about. Not to say that the male characters are anything to scoff at. Geoffrey, Etienne, and Laurent all offer many different exciting characteristics to read about. While the story mainly centers on Ysolde and Geoffrey, I enjoyed getting to read the story from another character’s perspective at times. And I’m not going to lie – I loved the romance! It wasn’t too heavy on it, but when it did veer towards it, it was appropriate and the amount just right. I loved this book, and cannot wait to read others in the series.
The story begins with two main characters who have already developed a several year friendship. He's her guard and handles the protection, she's the revolutionary noble trying to tax the nobility more so the poorer people can have better lives. Naturally, this causes friction amongst the nobility who want to screw over the little people and pay nothing. Assassinations begin of her supporters and there are a few attempts on the heroine's life. To add to those problems, her father insists she get married though none of the nobles on the acceptable list are anywhere close to acceptable for her. Especially the rude and obnoxious noble who is hell bent on marrying her and even her father agrees she should marry him. Oh what's a woman to do? In steps her loyal friend who would rather she marry him than suffer to bind her fate to the cruel obnoxious noble. But can an arranged marriage between friends turn into something more or will it destroy their friendship? Can they find out who all is against them and survive? And who are these two foreign strangers who promise arcane help and are they trustworthy?
I liked this story and felt the characters were unique enough and pretty cool and interesting to want to see several of them get their moment of glory in future installments of this series. I love that the women in this story are strong and trying to carve their own way through a male dominated society and the males are decent, caring, though perhaps clueless when it comes to women (which just makes them adorable!)
This was a fairly well crafted plot and well written story with several different threads going on throughout. My only complaint is that we got the POV of the bad guys which removed a layer of suspense. Although there are some surprises despite this, I would have preferred to be kept in the dark like our heroes since I felt that the reveal of the bad guys failed to add any tension to justify their reveal so early in the story.
The world building was ok. There were a few different cultures talked about and a few words in a foreign language tossed in. There were also a couple of spells demonstrated in holy, elemental, death and demon magic. However, nothing was gone into in depth which was rather a disappointment to my fantasy loving side.
Overall the story was interesting enough and I hope to read about some of the side characters in future installments which I will buy. I would recommend this for people who want a light fantasy romance read.
